MAN TGX 35.480 - Mäder Steine
This is the new Mercedes Arocs tractor of Zwissig from Sierre (CH).
Here it is parked in front of a Goldhofer 3-bed-5 lowloader combination.
The tractor is a Mercedes Arocs 3363 SLT in 6x6 layout. It is driven by the 15,6 liter OM473 engine with 625 hp.
This side of the chassis was filled 2 large storage boxes and the Ad-Blue tank.
A cardanic 5th wheel was installed, which is a must in the mountains here. It doesn't have a drawbar trailer, it will only pull trailers.
The tower behind the cab is covered by 2 nice flaps. Below we see the dieseltank, at the left the oil tank for the hydraulics, the batteries and some air barrels. To the right stands the additional radiator for the engine. The Voith VIAB hydraulic coupling in the driveline also gives of it heat to the water of the engine via a heat exchanger, so that is also cooled here.
The Goldhofer combination consists of a 3-axled module up front and a 2+3 axle unit at the rear. Depending on the job, the setup can be modified accordingly.
Here we see that the narrow Arocs cab is installed. The wide version is not available on trucks with a driven front axle. Typical for Switzerland are the adjustable width lights.
This tractor unit replaces an Actros 3353 6x6 of the 1st generation.
This side of the chassis holds the large exhaust system of the Euro 6 engine. A small chain bucket was also mounted here.
Noticable is the large wheelbase, which is caused by the 6x6 drive.
That long wheelbase offers room for the dropbox that divides the driving force between the front and rear axles. As the transmission including the VIAB is a bit longer than usual, the dropbox cannot be moved further to the front, resulting in this wheelbase.
The aluminium rims give the truck a nice overall look.
A very nice truck that will have to work hard in the Valais region!

Below there is a video of this truck.
