MAN TGS 35.500 - Voneschen Transporte
This nice looking MAN TGS belongs to Voneschen Transporte AG from Rothenbrunnen(CH).
The base chassis is a MAN TGS 35.500 in 8x6 layout, so the version where the front axle is not driven. This saves weight for the heavy crane installation and an 8x6 already delivers plenty traction. Also the steering angles with the 8x6 version are better.
The chassis was factory ordered with an air suspended rigig tandem. Toni Maurer then converted the truck to an 8x6*6, meaning it was equiped with a steering and driven rear axle. This is an option that is very much needed in this mountainous region.
A Palfinger PK135002 was installed behind the cab. A nice cover was installed beside the tank, behind it are also some air barrels. The chassis holds the Ad-Blue tank, exhaust system and the dieseltank.
A flatbed with extending rear end was installed behind the crane. Here you can clearly see the steering rear axle.
The front of the flatbed is used to store chains, hooks and a lot of support wood.
The rear outriggers where installed high enough, not to interfere with the approach angle.
This side of the chassis holds the batteries and a toolbox. Above the oiltank we see the MFA-jib, a manually extending jib that offers 5,5 meter additional reach.
The wheelbase is similar to the 8x8 model, but with the steering rear axle the turning radius is a lot less.
Maurer didn't only install the steering rear axle, but also reinforced the chassis to the front. That way, a 30 ton front outrigger could be installed, ensuring full stability all around for the crane.
Here the crane was set up. The Palfinger PK135002 in G version with 8 extensions reaches up to 16,4 meter with 4,4 tons of capacity.
Combined with the PJ190E jib that becomes 32 meter with 1,28 tons, and with MFA about 37,5 meter.
A very nice truck with a lot of technical details!

Here you can see a video of this truck.
