Tatra Phoenix 530 - Paul Reichegger
In 2021 this Tatra was added to the fleet of Reichegger Kran.
It is one of the few Tatra's in Italy and the only 8x8.
The Phoenix series uses the cab, engine and transmission of the DAF CF series. Here the long CF cab was mounted together with the 530 hp Paccar engine and ZF manual transmission.
The rest of the vehicle is built by Tatra, of course including the typical tube chassis with independent suspension on all axles. The truck has got 8x8 drive, but also all wheel steering including a crab-steer mode. This a very mountain rich area, and with this steering it can even get into the most cramped sites.
The crane they chose is the largest compact crane of Effer, the 2055 in 8S version. It is mounted on a demountable chassis.
The 2055 in 8S lifts a maximum of 42 tons at 2,7 meters. On the maximum outreach of 19,4 meters it still lifts 6,1 tons.
With a Tatra only the front part of the chassis is raised, so the part where the cab is installed. After the chassis lowers to a normal height again. This has the nice effect that, despite the 8x8 drive, the Effer in this position still stays underneath 4 meters of height. With a regular 8x8 truck with a straight chassis this would be rather hard to realize.
This side holds the Ad-Blue tank, the dieseltank and the exhaust system. That system from DAF is small enough to fit between the front axles. Unfortunately the Tatra had an issue with it's air suspension on this day, so it was hanging to this side.
Here we see the heavy hook extension. It is mounted to a manual extension that can handle up to 23 tons. It moves the hook height up, so that you can lift closer to the roof.
Here the jib was going to be installed. The outriggers are set up here, it has a total of 6 outriggers.
The large hook has to be taken of first, to be able to install the jib. This hook is stored in the rear storage box.
Here the crane extends to be able to mount the jib. The parking position is marked on the ground, which makes this process easier.
And here we see the jib itself. It is the HD version, so the Heavy Duty model.
The jib is installed to the crane here. This jib can lift up to 8,1 tons at 22 meters height. The maximum reach with this jib is 31,63 meter with 1800 kg capacity. With 2 manual extensions this becomes 1250 kg at 35,6 meter.
The Tatra was re-parked a couple of meters further.
These outriggers provide full stability for lifts to the rear, they extend aprox. 2 meters. Interesting is that these supports are tiltable, which is often usable in difficult situations.
The wooden support plates are transported on the flatbed, as well as some additional wooden blocks for when you need to set the crane up on an incline.
To demonstrate the crane, they lifted a 3 ton concrete block here.
This truck weighs roughly 40 tons, which gives it enough stability for lifts to the rear and to the side.
The winch is installed below the boom of the crane. The region around the foot of the crane has got a lattice grate, so that you can walkaround it. Currently there is a lifting beam on it.
Here the 3 tons are being lifted at about 23 meters, which nears the maximum capacity of this crane.
A very cool truck!

Here is a video of this truck.
