Volvo FH16-660 - Karl Thygesen
Karl Thygesen & Søn is a company with several crane trucks and is based in Greve, near Copenhagen (DK). This is their latetst adition to the fleet, a beatifull Volvo FH16 with a heavy Effer crane, shown here with a 2-axled drawbar trailer.

The trailer has been set aside here. The Volvo was painted in the nice colourscheme of the Tygesen company, a combination of metallic green and red. This side was used to mount some toolboxes.

Despite the long wheelbase, the truck remains manoeuvrable. This is due to the axle-layout, it is a 8x2*6, meaning that the rear axle is also steering which gives a short turning radius. The 3e axle has a planetery drive which makes it suitable for some heavier work. The chassis was modified by OA-Opbyg. The base is an air-suspended 6x2*4 that has gotten an additional air-suspended front axle.

On the truck they mounted an Effer 1750L. It is the long version of the 1750 and in this version it can reach up to 41 meters far, the 2 manual parts make that about 45 meters. It is mounted in driving direction because it is to wide to fold sideways. As can be seen here, the crane has been mounted further to the rear than usual. This was done by the crane installer, KL-Kranservice, because the normal position would have overloaded the front axles. The FH16 is definately heavier at the front than a FH12.

Around and behind the crane there is a flatbed. This gives a little bit of room for lifting materials. It won't carry any real loads because of it's heigh empty weight.

At the back they mounted 2 normal outriggers instead of the usual set of 4 on an L-version. The rear outriggers where therefore mounted further to the rear, giving enough stability to crane (which is already mounted further to the rear). The retractable set of outriggers at the rear therefore wheren't necessary anymore.

This side of the chassis has the dieseltank, the Ad-Blue tank and a large toolbox. Between both front axles hangs the mufler.

The chassis was also reinforced to the front, this was also done by KL. This way the Effer 1750 can use it's full potential in all directions.

To me this is one of the nicest crane-trucks of Danmark!
