Volvo FH540 - Transport & Lifting Twenthe
This nice Volvo was delivered at the beginning of 2021 to Transport & Lifting Twenthe from Rijssen (NL).
It is a Volvo FH540 10x4*6 in the shortest available wheelbase. The steering rear axle makes it very manoeuvrable.
The length is exactly 10 meter. This way they fullfill the legislation on certain innercities in the Netherlands, where 10 mtr is the limit for trucks. Almost half of the length of the truck is gone for the cab and crane.
This side of the chassis holds the Ad-Blue tank and the mufler. Between the rear axles they installed chain boxes that can be pulled out.
The flatbed can be extended at the rear, so that it can fit a 20 foot container. This part can also be taken of to exactly reach the 10 meter length. The crane and body where installed by Lako.
Below the bumper we see a drawbar coupling for the middle axle trailer, that is shown further down. With 34 ton empty weight it can still cary 16 tons of drawbar weight in the Netherlands.
The allowed weight for this truck in the Netherlands is 47 tons, so it can carry 13 tons on the flatbed. We see 2 large support mats stacked behind the toolboxes.
On the flatbed they carried this interesting part, made by HTZ in Rijssen. It can be installed into the last extension of the main boom. It gives you a raised tip for the hook, which is very handy when you have to lift objects that nearly as high as the door or the ceiling. With this extension the hook comes as close as possible to the ceiling. The angle can be modified manually, max. load is 10 tons.
Here we see the large Palfinger, a PK135002 it is. It is the H-version that extends 9x to 21,9 meters with 3,7 tons capacity. The crane in black suits well with the silver and orange of the truck.
Here we can see that the crane is installed as close as possible behind the cab. There where several reasons to choose the integral version of the crane, instead of the bolted version. Main reasons where height, axle loads and stability to the front.
An all around very nice truck! A additional support was mounted to the front and the chassis was fully reinforced. Empty it can reach about 90%, with ballast on the flatbed it can go up to 100% of capacity.
A quick view on the trailer, a 3-axled GS-Meppel middle axle drawbar trailer. The drawbar is extendable for longer loads.
With 3 x 8t axle load and 1t coupling load it has 25t total.
The crane was also set up.
Here it already starts unfolding. With double pumps it is running smooth and fast.
The newer Palfinger crane models have a winch that tips hydraulically. Here it is just tipping into crane position.
The support beam at the rear is mounted as high as possible to offer space for the drawbar coupling.
This truck is used for all kind of work, but one of the specialties of TLT is the installation of cell towers/antenna's.
The PJ150E jib gives an outreach of 34,5 meter with 1 ton capacity. Maximum load with active DPS is 8 tons. With the MFA jib, that is stored above the oiltank behind the cab, gives another 5,5 meter of extra outreach.
A very nice and well thought out crane truck!
